This rings true for local Bethany Garretson who was inspired by Bob Marshall—a forester, writer, and wilderness activist in the 30s and 40s. He was also one of the first to hike all 46 High Peaks. The traverse is 38 miles with 13 peaks over 4,000 feet. 56 Becoming an outdoors-woman: The DEC offers an exciting three-day series of workshops designed for women to learn new outdoor skills.
