Kiley Frank Elizabeth S. Varnai Our second book recommendation is Good Morning Loon: It's Early Morning —What's Happening on the Lake? written by Elizabeth S. Varnai and illustrated by Kate Hartley—both women have strong Adirondack roots. Good Morning Loon will take you on an early morning ca- noe paddle on a quiet, clear, and misty lake. A mother is tak- ing her young child on a paddle in the hope of hearing, and maybe even seeing, a loon. A magical escapade happens as they encounter many animals also enjoying the early morn- ing. If you have a young person in the family that loves Adiron- dack animals and going on adventures, this book will be a hit for sure. If you are just planting the seed of adventure, then again this book will help set the hook of wanting to learn about, and discover, the animals that live in the Ad- irondacks. The last four pages of Good Morning Loon offer the read- er a more in-depth description of the animals mentioned along the canoe paddle. Kate Hartley, the illustrator, adds her artistic touch with a beautiful picture of each animal. The third and final children's book we are recommending this issue is Tomorrow is Waiting, written by Kiley Frank and illustrated by Aaron Meshon. Kiley is a local author from Canton. This book touches on the promises we hold for what a new day can bring in the eyes of a child. It encourages kids to ex- plore, have purpose, be kind, know which risks are worth it, and to take the time to listen, and be heard. Today it feels like we need kids to know the possibilities that are there for them—to encourage them to dream big and to believe in something—along with believing in themselves. The col- orful illustrations help show the wonderful ways a child can see and experience the world. *Independent Bookstore Day is April 27th —many local bookstores will be celebrating. In Lake Placid, The Book- store Plus will be hosting two of the mentioned authors: Kiley Frank from 1:00 –3:00 pm and Maxwell Eaton III from 3:00 –5:00. Both authors will be signing books.
