LOCALadk 11 HENRY Henry Horvath is a 16-year old boy who will be entering his junior year at Middlesex boarding school in Concord, Massachusetts. He grew up, and comes home to Cooperstown, New York where he lives with his parents, his younger brother, and his dog, Lucy. Henry really enjoys ice climbing, rock climbing, mountaineering, hiking, and running, usually with his Dad, friends or brother. His stomping grounds are the Adirondacks and some secret places to climb around Cherry Valley and Cooperstown. When not climbing or hiking Henry likes to play guitar, write prose or poetry, or hang out with friends. BETHANY KAREN RICH Rich Ortiz is a Lake George-based musical artist. He has had two albums released and performs locally, regionally and nationally at a variety of events. His venues widely range from an intimate acoustic setting to large stadium shows. Rich is just as well-known locally as an avid outdoorsman, participating in professional bass fishing tournaments and representing national outdoor brands and products such as Costa Sunglasses, HT ice-fishing and Simms. rough these and his music, he interacts with hundreds and sometimes thousands of souls on a daily basis with his high-energy, positive nature. Bethany Fitch is a rising junior at Bucknell University from Westminster, MD pursuing majors in Environmental Science and eatre. She has just completed an internship with the New York Department of Environmental Conservation in Ray Brook, NY where she spent her summer exploring, learning, writing, and educating others about sustainable recreation in the Adirondacks, a place her family has called home for generations. During the school year, she researches flooding caused by Tropical Storm Agnes (1972) and its legacy in the Susquehanna River Valley region. Dr. Karen Keasler grew up in Westchester County, NY and fell in love with the North Country when she attended St. Lawrence University. She and her husband moved to Wilmington, NY in 2016 aer their three children had graduated from high school. An avid skier and outdoors person, and passionate about giving back to the community, Karen created the Wonders of Wilmington Challenge. LAUREL PAUL Laurel Carroll grew up in Brooklyn, New York, but has lived full-time in the Adirondacks since 2000 in the tiny hamlet of Chilson. A freelance copy editor for 30 years, she currently writes for Denton Publications. She is happiest outdoors, observing dragonflies and other animals and finding (and sometimes eating) wild mushrooms. "Nature is full of surprises. You never know what's going to happen next!" Paul Sorgule is a long time Adirondack chef, culinary educator, restaurant consultant and trainer, and author. Culinary Olympic Gold Medal winner, 2001 National Culinary Educator of the Year, and author of two novels, Paul is passionate about good food and its sources.
