starter supplies – waterproof matches, butane lighter, candles, starter
material, etc. A campfire can make the difference between a cold,
miserable night in the woods and a pleasant night waiting just waiting
for morning light to find your way out. Always inform someone of
your itinerary and when you expect to return. Provide them the phone
number for the DEC Emergency Dispatch: 518-891-0235. You should
have this as well.
Enjoy yourself
Enjoying the beauty of the Adirondacks is as important if not more
important than the recreational activity itself. Take your time and
look around. Don't push yourself or others in your group. Keep groups
together and if you or someone in the group can't make it to your
destination, turn around and go back. A shortened enjoyable trip is
much better than a miserable longer one.
Millions of people come to the Adirondacks each year to recreate on the
lands and waters. Some proper preparation will greatly help to ensure
that your experience is positive. So take the steps to properly prepare
and have a safe and enjoyable time recreating in the Adirondacks. R
