A Glimpse
Of Summer
Winter seems to hang on forever, and this year it
reminded us that snow can still fall in a big way. 30
inches on Whiteface, May 31st! This opening photo
was taken almost an entire month before that surprise
storm. We wait; some more patiently than others. It's
still cold, cloudy and misty as June 1st passes, and we
hope for sun. I want warm toes! Everyone sticks their
head out doors. A bunch of adventurous souls make
the trek to the Adirondacks on the first family vacation
of summer for Memorial Day weekend. You never
know what you're going to get, but everyone knows
this is how it is. People who live, work and visit here,
understand the weather. We put our toes in the water,
go for a paddle, climb a rock or go for a ride. With a
change of season comes a change of gear. Skis go in,
boats and bikes come out. Summer isn't "officially"
here yet, even though the calendar is convinced it is.
There's a subdued, quiet, calm, everywhere. We all
know it's going to happen. And then one morning,
we wake up, the temperature is soaring, the skies are
blue, and summer has literally arrived over night. But
it's not here for long. Get out there and enjoy it while it
lasts. Ready, set, go!
