The Strand Theatre is a cornerstone of the Old Forge community. It means so much to so many people and community organizations, and that is why CAP-21 and CAA has formed a committee to ensure its survival. Planned is a Strand Theatre 90th Anniversary Gala and Fundraiser from 6-8pm at the Forge Knoll in Old Forge. After cocktails, food and live music under the festival tent, the celebration will move to the Strand for a video presentation. The benefit is part of a community effort to help 42 LOCALadk Magazine Summer 2013 fund the mandatory conversion to digital projection. Already, the industry-wide conversion has resulted in the demise of several Adirondack community theaters. The Strand will stand! This intermediate distance triathlon features a 1000m swim, 22-mile bike, and a 4-mile run. The race will begin at 8am. For more info: www. atcendurance.com Outdoor Adventure Headquarters 81 Main St, Saranac Lake NY CAMP - FISH - HIKE BICYCLE SERVICES NYS Licenses - Live Bait September 6 - 8 31st Annual 90-Mile Canoe Classic Race This three-day, 90-mile flat water race follows the original highways of the Adirondacks from Old Forge to Saranac Lake. The course offers a mix of lake and river flat water paddling with several carries. Participants receive a T-shirt, mileage pins, awards, camping, snacks, boat shuttles and a post race meal. Entry forms for this race go out via U.S. Mail in June. The 90 - Miler is limited to 250 boats. Entry deadline is July 25. Entry fee is $150 per paddler ($125 for AWA members.)
