LOCALadk | Up & Comer Presenting our Summer 2013 Up & Comer's! These great kids entered their written work into the poetry conetst held by the Village of Saranac Lake to help bring attention to the new Saranac Lake 6'er event. They read them out loud to the crowd in Berkley Green during the running of the inaugural Saranac Lake 6'er. LOCALadk recognizes that our young Up & Comer's come in all shapes and sizes, and do all sorts of cool things. You just need to be out doing and getting involved. R 1st Place 1st Place Adirondacks Poem The Adirondacks Green trees, bumblebees Summer breeze, scraped knees Rainy days, winter chills Autumn leaves itchy fleas The Adirondacks say it all From mountains to valleys To forests and more From summer to fall To winter and spring All yearlong It's nature you see Raechel G. Villani Grade 4, Bloomingdale School Congratulations everyone! 2nd Place Mt. Baker I am Mt. Baker. I am made of rock. I look down over Saranac Lake. I have friends, My friends hike my trails. Clouds surround me and touch me. In spring I see blossoms on trees. In summer I see the clear water of the Saranac Lakes. In fall I see colorful Leaves. In winter I see sparkling snow. I love what I see! I love being Mt Baker!!! Dominic Whitson Grade 4, Bloomingdale School Water that sparkles Like cool, teal glass And leaves that turn Vibrant colors when Autumn comes creeping Around the corner In Winter the town is Covered in fluffy white flakes And in Summer warm breezes blow And people run around barefoot With grass between their toes Tall, majestic mountains rise And scenery like watercolor Stretches across this bold land And that is what I love about the Adirondacks Jackson Small Grade 5, Petrova School 2nd Place The Adirondacks Have you ever spent winter in the Adirondacks? Its' white, fluffy, and cold. Have you ever gone hiking in the Adirondacks? Its' beautiful, fun, and challenging. Have you ever gone boating in the Adirondacks? Its' blue, exciting, and thrilling. Have you ever climbed mountains in the Adirondacks? Its' heart-pounding, amazing, and the views are great! Have you ever gone swimming in the Adirondacks? Its' clear, cooling, and wet. Have you ever lived in the Adirondacks? Because if not, you don't know what you're missing. Jackson-Hunt Lamb Grade 5, St. Bernard's School 3rd Place Nature Time Hiking in nature, such a fun thing to do, Put on my backpack and my shoes. I see a mountain as big as I can see and a little worm as small as a pea. So nice, so warm, so unique, A ranger gave me a map that was quite neat. I see alovely tree so thick and tall. I see ababy bird up there, I hope he doesn't fall. I can't see the end that's good, isn't it? It is getting dark at least the path is lit. Even though you get dirty and messy and maybe mad, When you have to go, you are really sad! Forrest Monroe Grade 4, St. Bernard's School 3rd Place The Adirondacks We live in the Adirondacks, A wonderful place to be, Although we sometimes hurt our backs, There are beautiful views to see. In these beautiful mountains, We do not complain, When we build our snowmen, All of beauty we will obtain. When we make a prayer, That the Adirondacks will stay this way, We will decide to share, All of the beauty we've seen today. Steven Poulsen Grade 5, Petrova Elementary
