MAGARET LAURIE Wynde Kate Reese and Tammy Loewy met in 2001 while working at The Cliffhanger Cafe in Keene Valley. Sharing a passion for healthy, delicious food and love of the outdoors, they instantly became friends. In the spring of 2004 they started Green Goddess Foods, an organic and locally sourced prepared foods business. They were original members of the Lake Placid Farmer's Market and retailed their food at locally owned markets throughout the North Country. Catering and Cooking & Wellness classes are two other services they have offered since inception. In 2007 they purchased the Natural Food Store in Lake Placid and changed the name to Green Goddess Natural Foods. In January 2013 they expanded and re-opened their store in its current location at 2051 Saranac Ave. The store now includes The Scape Cafe, Deli, and Catering Service. Reese holds a BS in Holistic Nutrition and offers nutrition counseling services, while Loewy manages the cafe and catering aspects of the business. The mission of Green Goddess is to provide healthy and delicious organic and local foods to North Country residents and transient customers. & WYNDE JULIE Julie is a journalist, former editor of L'Ordine Della Vite Italian Wine Society Newsletter, and author of two books on antique plastics. Born and raised in Upstate New York, Margaret has often used the Adirondacks as an escape for kayaking, hiking, and relaxing. Her interest in green living began as she obtained her Masters in Community Economic Development from Southern New Hampshire University and explored all the ways that eco-friendly living could positively impact both the environment and the community at large. She loves traveling, yoga, and running, and lives in Saratoga Springs with her fiancé, Ben and their dog, Tobias. TAMMY MICHAEL Michael Green has been traveling and exploring the Adirondacks for most of his life. His family first came to the Adirondacks in 1916, as loggers and butchers. During his time in the Blue Line he has spent several years working for outdoor sport outfitters and can still be found daily in his canoe, kayak or mountain bike. His faithful Decker Terrier, Joey, often leads the way on their adventures. In his free time he enjoys researching Adirondack History. Michael has spent time as a bicycle mechanic, member of the US forrest service, and UN Delegate traveling the world as an advocate for conservation and environmental stewardship. As a recent Northeastern University graduate, Michael continues to research climate change policy in his search for solutions to our largest problem. LOCALadk Magazine Summer 2013 19
