LOCALadk | People Following Up on Floyd 6,000 Miles Down 6,000 More to Go By LOCALadk Staff Floyd Lampart is a 67 year old Lake Clear local on a 12,000 mile mission: to pedal his way around the country trying to raise thousands of dollars to support two animal shelters which he holds near and dear to his heart. Floyd will be riding his bike to the most Northerly, Southerly, Westerly and Easterly post offices in the continental United States. Part of the money he raises will be donated to the Tri-Lakes Humane Society in Saranac Lake for a desperately needed sprinkler system. The rest of the funds will help They say the first thousand miles finance an in-house laboratory are the toughest. Yeah right! for the new veterinary clinic at Best Friends Animal Society* in Kanab, Utah, which is the country's largest no-kill shelter. Floyd's adventure began on April 4th where he set off for his first destination, the most easterly point on his trek, Lubec, Maine. The first leg of his journey took just under a week when he reached Lubec on April 10th . There he was treated to some complimentary chocolate from Monica's Chocolates in town. Floyd ran into a little snag on the Tobin Bridge in Boston, where he ended up with a police escort due to the fact that no bicycles are aloud on the bridge (and I like to think his VIP status among animal shelters had something to do with the police being so helpful!) Once across, he was again informed by the toll booth worker that no bikes were allowed on the bridge. Needless to say he didn't have to pay the toll. From there, he is headed west to San Diego, and on north to LaPush, Washingto, which will mark the most western point on his journey. As we prepare the Summer issue of LOCALadk, we leave Floyd pedaling in Beverly Hills, California. I'm sure he doesn't stand out at all! We're with you Floyd! With over 6,000 miles on his odometer, and 6000 more miles to go, we wish him well along his journey and that the wind will always be at his back!
