Salvelinus fontinalis, the brook trout, is a classic icon of the Adirondacks. But 'Ole Square Tail' isn't just a symbol
of the Adirondacks, it is also the state fish of New York and the only trout that is truly native there. While there
may be "wild," unstocked brown and rainbow trout in New York, they are not considered native species.
