LOCALadk 13 NORAH Norah Machia spent 20 years as a journalist for the Watertown Daily Times before joining the Northern New York Magazines as a contributor. Her freelance writing has appeared in numerous regional, state and national publications. Her most recent book, Celebrating eir Lives:Turning the Loss of a Loved One into a Legacy for Helping Others, was published in 2021 (Highpoint Publishing). She and her husband Tony came to the Adirondack Park each summer when their children were younger for camping trips on Eighth Lake, and they later built a cabin in Old Forge. ey spend their summers hiking, paddling and exploring the Adirondacks. TONY Tony Gianfagna (Tony G) grew up and resides in the Watertown area with his wife Jenna, kids Hudson and Lennon, and fur kids Liv and Penelope Rex. Tony is an elementary school principal in Northern New York and the self proclaimed luckiest guy on earth. He is an avid kayaker, canoeist, and OK mountain biker who is happiest with friends/family and a paddle in his hands. MELANIE Melanie Carden is a Boston-based travel writer. She le college in 1995 and moved to Alaska in search of adventure. Since then, she's been meandering the globe, exploring trails, diving with sharks, and such. Eventually, she returned to school – experience in hand – with a concentration in food and culture journalism. In between adventures, she indulges her unabated picnic obsession. LAUREL Laurel Carroll grew up in Brooklyn, New York, but has lived full-time in the Adirondacks since 2000 in the tiny hamlet of Chilson. A freelance copy editor for 30 years, she currently writes for Denton Publications. She is happiest outdoors, observing dragonflies and other animals and finding (and sometimes eating) wild mushrooms. "Nature is full of surprises. You never know what's going to happen next!" PAUL Paul Sorgule is a long time Adirondack chef, culinary educator, restaurant consultant and trainer, and author. Culinary Olympic Gold Medal winner, 2001 National Culinary Educator of the Year, and author of two novels, Paul is passionate about good food and its sources.
