The Inlet Mighty Loon pride swelled near and far.
These kids didn't have the highest-tech gear. Most of them
hadn't even seen a hockey game before. But what they did
have was something to belong to, a passion to learn, and
a growing support system. They had a newfound pride in
themselves and their community. When they stepped onto
the ice that evening, they weren't there to show off any snaz-
zy moves, they were showcasing their camaraderie. They put
their matching jerseys on that night and felt bigger than
themselves and more connected to something than ever. Af-
ter all, as the Mighty Ducks Coach Gordon Bombay famously
said, "A team isn't a bunch of kids out to win; a team is some-
thing you belong to, something you feel, something you have
to earn."
Perhaps we could all learn a thing or two from our Inlet
Mighty Loons.
and maybe, just maybe, an awesome
hockey journey was born in a small town.
