LOCALadk 20 More and more, we see groups of women and families riding together. We love to encourage others to enjoy the sport. When we see a youngster out riding with adults, we always make it a point to stop and give them a high five and tell them they are doing great. We just love to share our adventures with other women and fami- lies in hopes that it will give them the confidence to enjoy this sport as much as we do. Between the four of us, we have nine snowmobiles, so when people come to visit, we always have an extra snowmobile for them to use. Lori and Lauren even have one two-up snowmobile, so friends who want to go snowmobiling but might be a little too timid to drive, can ride double with someone else. The experience is what it is all about. Lori and Lauren took up snowmobiling shortly after coming to the Adirondacks in the late '90s, but the love of snowmobiling has been in Suzie and Sally's families for years. They both started riding with their families when they were young. This tradition is now continuing with the younger family members. Their great-niece, Camyrn, started competing in the Kitty Cat races at the annual Snodeo when she was three. Their great-nephew, Cole, competed in his first race this past year. They can't wait to ride again this year so they can add another trophy to their collection. Although most days are better than the last, we have gotten ourselves into a predicament or two. We like to find unbroken trails so we can be the first ones to ride through the powder and watch the snow come up over the cowl. It feels like we are riding on a cloud. One wrong turn and we have found ourselves buried in snow. Thankfully, years of experience have taught us to be prepared for things like this. We pull out our shovel and tow rope, and after taking turns shoveling and pulling on the skis, we are finally back on the trail. Great friendships are developed on the trails, too. Last year, while out riding, Sally happened upon a group of snowmobilers with rental sleds that were unfamiliar with the trails. They were lost and could not find their way back to their hotel. After leading them back to their hotel, Sally made plans to take them on a snowmobile tour the next day to show them around the Adirondacks. The day ended with Suzie and Sally inviting the group back to their home for coffee and donuts. The Adventurists: Sally, Suzie, Lori, and Lauren
