LOCALadk 59 If you live in or visit the Adirondacks, chances are you have a favorite flannel shirt. Raise your hand if you do. Flannel shirts and the Adirondacks just seem to go hand in hand naturally. Whether you are out chopping firewood for a cozy campfire or just relaxing after an adventure-filled day, there is nothing better than putting on a cozy flannel. At LOCALadk we love our flannels, so we were excited to connect with Lake Placid-based Adirondack Field to chat about their new company and test out some of the products. The company is owned by co-founders Dan and Kaila Kelle- her, who reside and work in Lake Placid. Adirondack Field began in 2020 with the goal of developing environmentally responsible, American-made apparel that would give customers timeless style and comfort ― apparel that you feel good in and feel good about supporting. Have you ever ordered something, opened the packaging, and had the odor of chemicals fill your house? It's likely that what you ordered was not produced with the environment in mind. That's what drove Dan and Kaila to do some research and come up with a better solution, a better option. Their drive to produce a better product led them to mills and factories that operate under some of the strictest environmental standards in the world. These factories also provide livable wages to fellow Americans, another goal that the Kellehers set for Adirondack Field. This commitment to domestic manufacturing means every item in the company's clothing line is at least cut and sewn in the United States. Its long- and short-sleeve T-shirts use 100% Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)-certified organic cotton and are knit, dyed, cut, and sewn in the U.S. The hats incorporate both domes- tically and internationally sourced fabrics and are sewn in North Carolina, while the flannel shirts use luxury Japanese fabrics that are cut and sewn into high-end garments on the West Coast. The company hopes to bring flannel shirt manufacturing closer to home as the firm grows. Their mission was to prove that vibrant economies, adventurous lifestyles, and clean ecosystems are not mu- tually exclusive. Dan Kelleher stated, "We are excited to establish an ethical, American-made apparel line that exports the Ad- irondack brand across the world. Our environmentally responsible clothing represents the Adirondack region's commitment to conservation while highlighting the unique history of hard work and rugged adventure that continues in the Adirondacks today." We support this local company and encourage you to consider them when shopping for your new favorite flannel shirt. We recognize the price point is on the high end but we think it is worth it.
