• Ooaki suits are amazing. The zippers are sealed so no water gets in. Buy
one or two sizes up to get multiple years of use.
• Our Rumple waterproof blanket continues to come out from winter
through spring, making a nice snack spot in the woods or wet beaches.
• My kids love their fish bowl habitat. It has a handle and a screen lid on top
and they spend lots of time using it to sift for treasures in shallow water.
• It sounds silly, but Vale loves his handheld metal detector. The one we
have is waterproof and costs about $20 on eBay.
• When we head out to play in "mud" or wet beaches, we also like to bring
old kitchen tools. The boys will construct a mud kitchen anywhere we let
them, and I have spent the past couple years buying up neat antique old
tools from antique and vintage shops.
• If you have personal property in the woods to build fairy houses on, check
out bulk vintage dollhouse furniture on eBay. We have found some pret-
ty neat items there for Olin's fairy houses inside logs and at the base of
trees. We maintain these pretty well all spring and then gather all of the
pieces before the summer undergrowth comes in.
• Pack a sense of release. Let the kids get wet. Soaking wet jeans and socks
looks uncomfortable to us, but in the end, why should it bother us? Come
with the intention of them getting wet and muddy and be OK when it hap-
pens. You got this!
