A few times a month, I wake up and go out into the
Adirondack Park with my Dad, where we photograph
the natural beauty of our world. This has been going
on since I was first gifted a camera by my parents
about 3 years ago. My family and I have lived in the
park as long as I can remember.
My name is Grey Gardner. I am a 14 year old land-
scape photographer and the son of professional land-
scape photographer, Kurt Gardner.
There is nothing like being outside in the Adiron-
dacks. The air is so clean that in winter, it might even
sting to breathe it in. This happens only to remind you
how "alive" it is to be here.
People have been living in the park for over a hun-
dred years, and in that time, so much has happened
from the air itself helping to cure tuberculosis, to
becoming a forever wild preserve, to the Olympics
being held in Lake Placid. So many people have felt its
beauty or wanted to preserve its magic.
I really started getting into photography about 3
years ago, when my Dad and Grandfather started
taking black & white photos for a show that they were
putting together.
I really enjoyed going out with them and learning
how to operate the camera they were using at the
time, a "Crown Graphic 4x5" film camera. But what I
enjoyed the most was being in a darkroom making the
final b&w prints with my Grandpa. My camera is now a
Nikon D5600.
My dad sometimes teaches photography classes.
I remember going with him when he was teaching a
class and learning how to operate my camera. It was a
bit confusing at first, but eventually I learned how to
operate it on my own.
