Like Loons? This fascinating icon of the Adiron- dacks has much to tell us. The haunting call of a loon resonates across Adirondack lakes on summer evenings – what is it saying? It has been twenty-five years now since I first started studying Adiron- dack loons, initially as a volunteer helping with loon capture, banding, and sampling across the Park, then co- ordinating the field work the following two years. This experience has grown ever since and has now evolved into the Adiron- dack Center for Loon Conservation, a dynamic non-profit organization in Saranac Lake, NY. With the loon as our centerpiece, our work is driven by our scientific re- search and conservation efforts, which we translate into our educational and outreach programming to help protect and support healthy populations of Common Loons across North America. Our Adirondack Loon Center, located at 75 Main Street in Saranac Lake, NY, is an educational, tourist, and shop- ping destination for loon-lovers of all ages. It fills a unique niche in the Park by providing an engaging experience for Adirondack residents, visitors, and stu- dents to learn about the Park's wildlife and environmental concerns through the lives of Common Loons.
