LOON FACTS:
• Loons live 25-35+ years.
• They have a specialized anatomy for
living in water, but can't walk well on
land.
• There are 5 species of loons: Arctic,
Common, Pacific, Red-Throated, and
Yellow-billed
• Loons take baths for up to an hour or
more!
• The primary types of loon calls are
hoot, tremolo, wail, and yodel.
• Loons can be very social, sometimes
gathering in groups of 20 or more
birds to feed, especially in the fall
and winter.
