fresh air on the drive in to catch the scent of pines on
the wind, the striking visual simplicity and elegance of
the light and dark contrast that coats the landscapes,
the nearly audible "sound of silence" within the dense
forestry, or the cloud piercing summits of the High
Peaks Wilderness colored in alpenglow, the soul con-
tinues to be nurtured in this place.
Whenever I am able to experience any part of this six
million acre haven, it brings about a sense of stillness
within, causing even the most hurried and anxious
parts of me to be quieted. I think this is just one of
the many reasons why God created the season of
winter within nature and His creation — as a reminder
to myself and others that our souls need rest from a
world that is growing louder by the day. This is why
photography has been a part of my journey, and will
continue to be as long as I live. It has allowed me to
take a necessary pause to capture the beauty of this
world, especially this wonderful place that we get to
share here in the ADK.
So this winter, get out there and enjoy all that this
park has to offer, and allow this season to help you
find rest for your soul.
