LOCALadk 24 Gorge area is becoming bass-heavy. There is no deny- ing that warmer temperatures are affecting which fish populations dominate the river. Brook Trout seem to be the most sought-after fish, but that doesn't seem to take away from the point of being out there as reel- ing in any Adirondack fish is exciting. Abe explained that the Hudson River holds various species of fish as it drains the eastern High Peaks. The Adirondacks as a whole are a truly spectacular fishery with local streams, lakes, rivers, and ponds flourish- ing with an abundance of native fish. There is also an abundance of classified "invasive" fish. There is no doubt that the Hudson River Gorge Wilderness and the acreage that surrounds it cre- ate a unique bond to those who decide to live here. It's what has kept one business owner, teacher, and recently elected Town board member, Anna Bowers, engaged in our community and its future. Anna has incredible plans for the area, especially regarding getting young people to stay in the Ad- irondacks. She has found it "really interesting and exciting to work with folks from different walks of life and different points of view." She also said, "I love that the Adirondacks have distinct seasons and that there's a real celebration about each one. I have also found a real sense of community here that has made me stretch my 'I'll be here for a few years' into sixteen years. We all seem to have an innate understanding that this is a special place. It takes a little bit more work to make it work - but there's pride in that, too." It can ultimately go without saying that whether you are recreating on natural landscapes, or you are living within range of the Hudson River Gorge Wilderness Area, both locals and visitors love to be here, each playing a major role in maintaining what makes these communities and ecosystems as gorgeous and lively as they are. As always, I am proud to be hosted by these woods and to be a part of one of the most commit- ted-to and spirited local populations in the park, wild or tame. t All smiles on the river
