Creative Corner
The "Creative Corner" is new to LOCALadk, but it's an idea we've been dreaming about for some time. The
vision is simple: we want to highlight the talented creative writers and artists in our region. Our concept this
summer surrounded "water."
For our upcoming fall issue, we invite creative writers and artists to submit an independently created piece
involving fall's chosen concept: "change." We accept poetry, fiction, or non-fiction 200 words or less in addi-
tion to artwork. Our team will select pieces to publish. Send submissions by August 20 to info@localadk.com

Home
Of all the water
Rivers, ponds and lakes
I'll take the brackish black
To brilliant blue
Central Adirondacks
Others seem to lack
Clarity
Sincerity
And the deep
Delightful sense
From youth I've known
"This is home."
Lee Spinning's Rock
As a boy
I lost Lee Spinning's rock
In the deepest part of Woodhull Lake
Dear God, if my deepest desire when I go
Is something you want to know
Might my ghost go
Take that deep dive
Over and over again
Then to both be on Woodhull
And with Lee's rock
Just the Lake, the rock and me
For the rest of eternity.
Life and Death Where the Waters Sing
Life is like
The Moose River
At what was Dick Southwick's Singing Waters
At first…
Slow, casual
Boring
You hardly know you're moving
Then
You get the sense of motion
Not knowing you're like that boiling frog
Then through the mist
Through the fog
You sense the rapids
Draw you in
Faster and faster
As you attempt to master
The final ride
First a rock grazes you
One then two
Then more
And more
Even before you hit the rapids
You're so, so, sore
Still you fight
For the right
To still be, still do
To stay alive in the Adirondack splendor
A love that surrounds you
