LOCALadk 50 If you've ever been to The Garagery on Monday nights, chances are you're planning the next time you can make it back to this special Adirondack live music event. We sat down with the host and producer, Char- lie Reinertsen, to talk all things Hootenanny — how it got started, what makes it different from other music events, and how it's supporting our talented communi- ty of musicians in the North Country. Thanks for taking the time to talk about the Hoote- nanny with us! So, what exactly is the Saranac Lake Hootenanny? Thanks for the opportunity to share! The Hoot is a weekly live music event Monday nights at The Garag- ery in Saranac Lake, New York, from 6:30 -10:00 pm. The night includes music from featured artists, open mic performers, and what's being called the SL'oo Line– –a portion of the evening that brings musicians together to work through songs in real-time. For those who have yet to have the pleasure of vis- iting The Garagery, what is it and how do you find it? The Garagery is an event space in Saranac Lake, and you can find it in the Dorsey Street Parking Lot be- low Grilze T's back deck. If you are coming from Main Street, you can head down the alley next to the Town Hall to reach the Dorsey Street Parking Lot. The Garagery has a full bar, and food is available upstairs at Grizle T's. The Garagery donates the space to the Hootenanny on Monday nights to support local music. What type of music would attendees expect to hear at the Hoot? We've enjoyed everything from five-piece brass bands to solo singer/songwriters and everything in between. All genres are welcome, and you can check out the full line-up of Featured Artists by visiting twolined.com/ hoot to see what exciting acts are coming to the stage. What makes this particular open mic different from others in the region? There are so many fantastic live music events and ven- ues in this area, but it can be hard for local musicians to break into larger venues with a stage setting. The Garagery is a perfect venue for artists to see what it is like performing on stage, with a rapt and supportive audience who is there to really listen to and enjoy the music.
