Rhiannon See you next year, Editor LOCALadk 7 A M E S S A G E F R O M R H I A N N O N LOCALadk …Whew. We made it. The fall issue is finally here. For those of you who are long-time readers, you have likely noticed that our magazine is far later than usual. This fall has been spectacular in many ways. However, it was a season of challenges for our magazine. That said, these challenges al- lowed us an opportunity to embrace a season of adaptability. We came quite close to not being able to make it happen, but we are thrilled to finally get the stories from our wonderful and talented writers into your hands. And while it has been a bit snowy of late (and rainy, and sunny, and cloudy), we are grateful to at least have stayed ahead of the winter solstice, although we have said adieu to the incredible foliage that ex- ploded across the region. As this time of year marks a season of gratitude, allow me a moment to express our thanks. To our writers, we thank you for continuously contribut- ing the many unique, vibrant, and engaging stories that make our communities what they are. The Adirondacks are known on paper for the beautiful mountains, forests, rivers, and streams, but it is the stories of these spaces and the people and histories within them that truly make our region what it is. If you have ever considered writing a stor y for our maga- zine, please reach out. We would love to hear your ideas. To our advertisers, we thank you for single-handedly keep- ing our magazine alive. Many do not realize that our maga- zine, which has been a free publication for over thirteen years, is funded solely by advertisements from our local busi- nesses. From its printing to its storage to its distribution, our advertisers are the backbone of our publication. We could not appreciate you more for believing in our humble publi- cation and for allowing us to continue bringing stories to our readers, near and far. For those businesses who have wanted to work with us, please reach out. We would love to have you join our advertising family. To our readers, we thank you for celebrating us – whether you have been with us for all thirteen years or whether you are opening our pages for the first time. Stories are only as powerful as their audience — thank you for allowing us to blossom. We love hearing your feedback about stories that moved you, that invited you to new spaces, that inspired you to tr y new adventures. In this season of giving, we ask you to consider making a one-time contribution to our magazine to help keep it alive. The financial obstacles we have faced this past season — ob- stacles that have been present throughout the year and have grown — are proving challenging for keeping a free, quality publication not only alive but thriving. You can scan our QR code below, send a check, or visit www.GoFundMe.com/f/ support-localadk-magazine to support our fundraiser. All checks can be made payable to LOC ALadk Magazine and be mailed to 339 Mill Pond Drive, Lake Placid, NY 12946. We additionally ask that you consider supporting our local businesses as often as possible. Not only is their support the backbone of our magazine, but they are the backbone of our communities. They, too, have faced growing challenges. As much as they wish to support us, we wish to support them in return. I often end these letters by writing my gratitude for your readership. I thank you even more for your ongoing patience, your flexibility as we adapt, and for your endless support.
