known for its struggles—disease, civil war,
poaching, famine, and so on—lies Namibia,
a sparsely populated na on defying African
stereotypes. In October, Bethany Garretson
and a class of interna onal graduate
students explored coast and desert, finding
along the way a wild land where people and
nature have discovered how to coexist.
