I t seems difficult, sometimes, to get away from bad news and negativity. When that happens, grab a little LOCALadk. Here at the magazine, we're going to try to balance things out a bit. So, rather than having "jeers" section for things that bother us, we've created this section called Cheers! It's a special place to give a shout out, a thanks, or draw some attention to something good that's happneing or something cool someone did. It's also a good place to say, "thank you." We'll kick it off, but we want our readers to chip in! If you want to send someone a Cheers! in the magazine, send us an email and let us know about it. If we can we'll print it! eMail info@LOCALadk.com Here's a few to get us started: Cheers! To every last one of our advertisers. They help make each issue of LOCALadk become a reality, and offer some amazing products and services for you, right here in the Adirondacks. Please visit them today, and show them you support local businesses. Cheers! To my good friend Royce for making it into the magazine, climbing like a spider better than most people half his age, and for teaching a whole lot of people about climbing, skiing, and life. Look him up if you want to hire a guide; there's no better way to spend the day. Cheers! To Adirondack Life for having, for what we believe is the first time ever, beer, bikes (motor & pedal) and boobies in your last issue. Cheers! To all of our families and loved ones that put up with us as we work relentlessly on LOCALadk. Cheers! To the gang at Tri Lakes Humane Society that do their best every day to help out animals in need. Cheers! To the NY State Forest Rangers and State Police Aviation Unit at Lake Clear for having us out to learn about their helicopter/hoist rescue program, and photograph the day. They put in long, long hours making sure your time spent in the backcountry is as safe as it can be, and they're ready at a moment's notice to haul you out of trouble, and make sure you make it home alive. Cheers! To the iPhone 4s. For the first time ever, we've printed a great photo, taken on none other than the iPhone 4s. It's not often we get a quality photo in from a mobile device, but it is possible, and there is a lesson to be learned here. If you are out and about, you can take great photos that are aceptable for print with some of today's high-end mobile devices. That doesn't, however, make it any easier. Can you guess which photo in this issue was taken with the iPhone 4s? On The Cover: HSUP - Headstand Stand Up Paddleboarding on the Moose River in Old Forge, NY Photo by Kurt Gardner
