6 Summer 2014 LOCALadk Who's Who SCOTT MIEROP is the Founder of LOCALadk Magazine and a long time Adirondack enthusiast, visiting since 1969 and living within the Blue Line for the past 14 years. After a long career in the corporate world of marketing and sales, he escaped. He's an avid outdoor enthusiast and enjoys mountain biking, paddling, rock climbing, hiking and skiing. He has been an alpine racing coach at NYSEF and National Sports Academy. He's also a pilot and loves to fly. He devotes the majority of his time to LOCALadk Magazine, and can often be seen with his camera and black & tan Dachsund, Gary. SCOTT ANNE BREWER lives in Lake Placid with her fiancé, his daughter, and their dog Juni. She is an avid outdoor sports enthusiast, kayaker, hiker, skier, photographer, and traveler. She has a passion for Central and South America and enjoys visiting places that are off the beaten path. Anne earned a degree in International Business and Communications from SUNY Brockport. In addition to being the Managing Editor for LOCALadk, Anne guides for Adventures in Good Company, and operates her own summer business: Placid Waters Kayaking. ANNE Tiffany O'Brien graduated from Paul Smith's in 2008 with a degree in Wildlife Science. Since graduation, Tiffany has traveled repeatedly to pursue temporary international fieldwork. She now shares her abode with her cat, Frog, in Lake Placid, N.Y. When not working, Tiffany enjoys heading out in the wilderness whether it be to go birding, hiking, camping, or even just to find a serene setting to eat her favorite Lakeview Deli sandwich. Tiffany MATT YOUNG has called Lake Placid his home since 2004. He strives to achieve a balance between his passion for the outdoors and his treasured role as physical education teacher at Lake Placid Elementary School. When Matt is not teaching, he can be found paddling, skiing, or riding his bike. He usually brings a camera with him and loves to write about his adventures when he returns home. MATT LISA DENSMORE is a former U.S. Ski Team member and four-time World Masters Champion in alpine skiing. She is a native of Saranac Lake, New York, who spent her formative years on the slopes of Whiteface Mountain. When she's not skiing as fast as possible, she writes about, photographs and films a myriad of outdoor activities. She is the author of seven books including Hiking the Adirondacks (Falcon Guides, 2010) and Best Easy Day Hikes Adirondacks (Falcon Guides, 2011). www.lisadensmore.com LISA Maggie Pardue grew up in Brighton, N.Y., but when summer kicked in, she and her family loaded the station wagon and headed "up north" to spend the summer at the YMCA Camp Gorham on Darts Lake in Eagle Bay, N.Y. She graduated with a Masters in Inclusive Education Birth-Second Grade from Nazareth College in 2005. She and her husband, along with their two kids ages ten and seven, travel back to the Adirondacks every summer to run a youth program at Big Moose Lake, helping kids fall in love with the Adirondacks, just as they did. Maggie Josh Wilson lives in Saranac Lake with his wife, step-daughter, and 200 pounds of labrador retriever. He enjoys riding bikes, sliding on snow, wandering around large cities, and cooking Mexican street food. In 2013 he became Executive Director of the New York Bicycling Coalition, a statewide advocacy organization. At home in the Adirondacks, he serves on the Board of Directors for the Barkeater Trails Alliance and Adirondack Ski Touring Council. Josh Teresa Farrell fell in love with the Adirondacks on her first camping trip at 11 months old and has been back to enjoy the area every summer since. She earned her Bachelor's degree in English and Communications from the College of Saint Rose in Albany while spending summers and breaks living, working, and exploring the outdoors in Old Forge. Teresa now works as a freelance writer and editor for a variety of businesses and publications and travels all over upstate New York to write articles and take photos. She is also the staff writer for Upstate Summer Magazine, an annual travel publication that highlights things to do and places to go around New York State in the summer. She loves road trips, reading, camping, paddling, and exploring, and is always on the lookout for the next adventure and the latest story.
