Joby UltraFit Sling Carr y Strap for Cameras By Scott Mierop This section of LOCALadk is titled Gear We Use for a reason. I've owned the Joby UltraFit Sling Strap since July 2014, and use it nearly all the time my camera isn't sitting on a tripod. It's that good. My first experience with it came at a local event. In the last-minute frenzy at this year's Tupper Lake Warrior Run, our LOCALadk team, Gator Girls, sprinted from the start and disappeared into the trees. I'd never been to this event, and wasn't sure what to expect, but it became clear very quickly that all of the obstacle course and race action was going to be far up the ski hill. So I cinched up the new Joby UltraFit and took off running, with my Nikon and a single lens. It was a three-mile course, cross-country through woods, fields, mud and obstacles. The camera didn't bounce at all, it fit snug along my side and slightly toward my back. It was safe from debris and out of my way as well. I was - and still am - impressed. The best part of the Joby is the unique quick thumb-release of the strap lock. Then it extends easily, allowing unimpeded access and movement of the camera to your eye. When you're done, cinching it back up and securing camera to body is a breeze. The Joby is also light-weight and made with top quality materials that breathe, making its use on even a hot summer day enjoyable. If your current camera setup, maybe the classic neck strap, has your back aching at the end of the day, the Joby will be a welcome addition to your quiver of gear. It carries your camera as if in a sling backpack, distributing lots of weight with ease. My Nikon D7000, with 24-70 f/2.8 and battery grip, weighs in at nearly four pounds. With the UltraFit Sling Strap, it's no problem carrying it all day - even when running through underbrush and straight up a ski hill! Sure, there are similar designs on the market - most notably the Black Rapid family of straps that offer a similar over-the-shoulder, sling type arrangement. But I like the Joby best. It's lighter while still being very tough; its breathable without being flimsy. It's intuitive to use, and fully adjustable. Best? The Joby comes in both men's and women's models - the women's with a specially designed S-Curve in the main strap crosses the chest. Another reason to love this camera strap is the price. At an MSRP of $49.99, it's hard to beat.
