56 Summer 2015 LOCALadk Magazine LOCALadk We like photography, actually we love photography here at LOCALadk. Stunning and exciting photography was one of the reasons why this magazine was started. We live in an area that creates endless natural beauty, many smiling faces, non-stop action and events that fuel everyone's passion. These are all great reasons to have a camera ready and to have fun with photography. Technology has advanced since the days of Kodachrome and most of us have in our pocket a device that allows us to snap pictures at any moment. For others we use a camera with lenses and technology that allows for more creativity. We capture everything and share it for an instant or maybe longer. Photos draw us in and for some it may even make the difference. We wanted to share with you a book that is designed to help us all become better photographers. Carl Heilman is a renowned photographer in the Adirondacks and surrounding area. He has over 40 years experience stemming from when he bought his first camera. He has written several books on the subject, one being 101 Top Tips for Digital Landscape Photography. The book is laid out in a way that makes it quick and easy to find the subject you are most interested in at the moment. I find myself skipping back and forth depending on what kind of shot I am working on capturing. Tips include: equipment, exposure, composition, experimentation and stor- ing to name a few. One of the things that made the biggest impression and left me smiling was Carl's advice to just go out and shoot! He says that although reading books can help you learn new techniques its really about getting out there and practicing. Take your camera everywhere because you never know what you might see.
