4. Rt. 30
Known as the Adirondack Trail, Rt. 30 bisects the park, rolling up and
down hills, through marshes, and over lakes for over 170 miles from
the shores of Great Sacandaga Lake to the border of Canada. It just
may be the loneliest highway in the state, where you can travel in a
straight line for miles seeing nothing but a sea of low lying trees. Trav-
eling along this route will leave you feeling in the midst of a place
that is expansive and forever wild, a perfect reminder of what the
Adirondacks are all about.
With all that in mind, there are plenty of places to fuel up, and the vil-
lages located along the way are filled with exceptionally talented and
friendly people. It's also the access point to the Adirondack Museum,
where the curious and the thorough will discover that motorcycling in
the park is a long standing tradition.
5. Rt. 73
The Cascade Highway is what all highways should aspire to be. Travel-
ing from Lake Placid through Keene and Keene Valley along this route
is simply a magical experience, no matter what. Twisting roads climb
up to a mountain pass, paralleling gorgeous blue lakes hemmed in by
vertical cliff walls. On the other side, the steep, winding road gives
way to open valleys and picturesque villages, where the high peaks
dominate the skyline.
You will find waterfalls, swimming holes, hikes, and incredible eater-
ies to fuel you up for your next adventure along this perfect road.
