Fall 2015 LOCALadk Magazine 23 LOCALadk Plan your fall visit from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Satur- day or on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. The winery closes its doors briefly when the worst of winter sets in, typically in mid-January, reopening in the spring. Visit for a tasting any time during tast- ing room hours, except Friday nights after 6 p.m., when you'll be enjoying the live music as part of the vineyard's popular Friday Night Wine Down. Tastings are just $5 per person for a sampling of any number of wines currently available at the time of your visit. "We're a family owned, family operated winery, which is pretty nice," says Brian Frey. "We have a really nice tast- ing room mostly made out of salvaged and reclaimed ma- terials. It's got a really cozy, comfortable atmosphere." Put a contemporary spin on your sipping and check out the hidden gem wines of Goose Watch. The winery is the fun, up-and-com- ing sister to Lake Placid's Swed- ish Hill Winery, which is known for its more traditional flavors. A unique tidbit about Goose Watch is that Cornell University de- veloped some of the new varieties of grapes themselves, starting with Gewürztraminer or Traminette and cross-pollinating with num- bered, new varieties of grapes (non-GMO) to create a distinctive and flavorful cross between different grapes. In turn, the vintners en- hanced the grapes into fantastic wines that are unlike many others. The must-try selection at Goose Watch is The Diamond, a sweet wine that is akin to juice in a bottle—perfect for an aperitif, as a sweet dessert wine, or something for the fun of casual sipping. For those who prefer something on the dry side, try the Chambourcin—a dry, hearty red that pairs wonderfully with a nice, juicy steak. Visit Goose Watch for tastings year-round, with hours Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost to taste six wines with a complimentary wine glass to take home is just $6. As a special deal, you can continue your wine tasting fun by visiting Goose Watch's sister winery, Swedish Hill Winery, for just $3 on the same day to taste some of the more tra- ditional wines. Swedish Hill is located at 5730 Cascade Rd, Lake Plac- id and can be contacted at (518) 523-2498 or www.swedishhill.com. "You get the craziness outside added with the fun inside as you drink the wine because we are right on the main drag of Lake Placid," says Allison Moscato, Tasting Room Manager for Swedish Hill and Goose Watch Winery, Lake Placid. "You still get the ambiance of the outside when you come in to taste the fun, interesting, up-and-coming wines." Drink Pink! The Adirondack Winery is teaming up with the Amer- ican Cancer Society for the third year, helping to raise money for breast cancer research. Come to the winery, enjoy a wine tasting, and help to raise money through raffles, games with prizes, and by purchasing Adirondack Winery's "Drink Pink," charitable Rose Wine. Adirondack Winery also pulls together as a team to raise money in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Queensbury, NY, participating with family, employees, friends, and customers.
