Spring 2016 LOCALadk Magazine 57 LOCALadk thing and to do it great. They produce everything in a 6,000 square foot facility in Al- bany. It's a family business run with hard work, experience, creative palates, and a love for nuts. We sampled 4 flavors: ALMOND IN THE ROUGH - 100% al- monds, GETTIN PIGGY WIDDIT - a maple bacon peanut butter, COCO NUTTER BUTTER- peanut butter and coconut, and lastly the ADIRONDACK HIGH PEAKS BLEND - think trail mix peanut butter and think delicious! When I reached out to a group of people I know who love peanut butter, it was not hard to persuade them to come to a taste test. The companies were introduced, and I briefed everyone on the different flavors. First jar opened was The Peanut Principle's Adirondacks High Peaks Blend, and this is what I heard, "Wow this smells delicious". Everyone grabbed a spoon and enjoyed a taste. This butter bursts with flavor and has an appealing crunchy texture that seemed to pleasantly surprise everyone. Saratoga has the Adirondack Jack that also packs a lot of natural goodness into each jar. Our taste tes- ters' reactions were summed by this comment, "Who needs trail mix? These peanut butters have it all." After cleansing our palates, we opened up the maple butters. Saratoga offers New York's Finest Maple that embodies the sweet and decadent taste of pure maple syrup. Who doesn't like real maple syrup? The Peanut Principle flavor has the ma- ple and adds a twist by including bacon in the butter. Our tast- ers were split between who liked bacon and who preferred just maple. Both companies make a delicious almond butter that all testers agreed was some of the best Almond Butter they had ever tasted. My personal favorite was the Coco-Nut- ter from Peanut Principal, which is coconut and peanut butter combined. I love all things coconut. These great butters are available in many local stores with- in the Adirondacks and New York State. Farmers' markets are also a favorite location for both companies to share their pea- nut butters. Hannaford, Whole Foods, and Shop Rite, as well as many speciality stores throughout New York offer these two lines of peanut butter. LOCALadk and our local taste testers give both companies our stamp of approval and suggest anyone who likes peanut but- ter even a little, give these great companies a try. No doubt you will find a flavor that suits you.
