Summer 2016 LOCALadk Magazine 4 LOCALadk When we first talked about creating LOCALadk magazine, our goal was to deliver exciting content, stunning high-qual- ity photos, and serve as a publication platform for those with a passion for the Adirondacks. We also wanted to make a difference, be responsible in how we printed and to create a way to give back to the local communities. As we begin our fourth year, we have made good on our commitment to the editorial content and photos. We choose to print on Forest Stewardship Council paper. This certification ensures that the paper comes from responsibly man- aged forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits. We pay a little more for this paper, but we feel it's worth it. Until this issue, we have participated in 1% for the Planet and have made various donations to local organizations. Now we want to take it a step further. We have created a campaign called "Keeping it LOCAL". We are committing to making a donation with every issue to a community-based group or non-profit organization. We are also inviting our readers to make a small donation. People who read and enjoy LOCALadk often seem shocked that we give the mag- azine away for free. They ask, "really it's free?" or "how can it be free?", or "how do you do it?". It almost sounds like they want to pay for it…… almost. Well - how about making a small donation based on one of our featured stories? If you enjoyed reading a certain article and seeing the photos, why not support the organization with a few dollars? If only 1% of our readers gave $3-5 (cost of other magazines) to the selected organization, it would make a difference. In this issue we commit to "Keeping it LOCAL" and will make a donation to the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge. We invite you to make a donation as well. If you read "Into the Eyes of Wolves" by Hilary Williams, photographs by Joe Kostoss on page 45 you'll find a link at the end of the article to quickly and easily make a donation. Our motto is "We are not just a magazine, we're a community." Happy Summer, Anne Brewer Editor Joe Kostoss Message From The Editor
