This is located off River Road in the Hudson River Recreational Area outside the hamlet of Lake Luzerne. Park at the second campsite (#6) and hike ten minutes on a steep, red- blazed trail to reach the Bear Slide. The Bear Slide provides optimal summer thrill on a long, winding slip-and-slide. Ideal for any ability or level of apprehension, each person is free to decide where to enter the sloping rock's flow. I advise starting low on the grade and then, based on comfort, making one's way higher up the seemingly never-ending brown rock chute. The brook twists and turns as it meanders down the mountain- side for more than a quarter of a mile. The ride can be bumpy. There are several chafing and bruising hazards, not the least of which is the shallow basin at the ride's end which could be pain- ful if met at high speed. A boat cushion seat or inner tube – and maybe even a helmet – is advised. The Bear Slide is a great destination for hot weather play – even if the entertainment value is reserved to relaxing at one of sev- eral picnic tables watching others dare the Bear. This year when the hazy, hot days of summer arrive let your re- sponsibilities at home and work slide and tend to your inner child with a river ride on the Bog River Chute, Sliding Rock Slide or the Bear Slide. This summer establish yourself as the "coolest" kid of the Adirondack playground by hitting all three.
