Fall 2016 LOCALadk Magazine 8 LOCALadk Tiffany TIFFANY O'BRIEN graduated from Paul Smiths College with both an Environmental Studies and Wildlife Science degree in 2008. While still residing in Lake Placid, Tiffany has traveled to over 25 countries on expeditions ranging from diving the French Polynesia, trekking to Everest Basecamp, kayaking the Mekong Delta, to birding in the Peruvian Amazon aside the most populated parrot clay lick in the world. Tiffany will return to school for her masters degree to have a permanent place studying the natural world while making a difference in conservation attempts. In the meantime, she finds the utmost joy spending time with her cat, Frog, and the beautiful people she shares this Adirondack community with. KATIE CAHN grew up in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains alongside the Chattooga River (Where Deliverance was filmed and dueling banjos can actually be heard from time to time). After years of working odd jobs and traveling the world, Katie decided to earn her bachelor's degree at the age of 30. It was while attending Western Carolina University in North Carolina that she discovered the discipline of flyfishing. When not searching for trout she is working with children as an educator at a wilderness therapy school. Now, back in her native Chattooga River Watershed, she contributes her free time to river conservation, educating youth about the importance of healthy waters and living that cabin life with her husband Daniel and her river dog, Eddy. Though this was her first visit to the Adirondacks she is already planning a return trip. Katie SCOTT MARTIN is an internationally published photographer. Born and raised in South Africa he now resides in the United States with his wife and collection of dogs. A passion for travel, unique cultures and rivers has led him around the globe, camera in hand working for editorial and commercial clients. He frequently visits the Adirondack Park seeking adventure and compelling stories. Scott NICOLE BANTA is a freelance writer living just south of the Adirondack Park. She loves all things outdoors, especially being on and in the water, camping, admiring the night sky and exploring new places. Her creative pursuits range from writing and crafting to gardening and cooking. She resides in Johnstown, NY with her husband, Keith, wild dog, Dacks (also a lover of the 'dacks), two cats and a handful of happy backyard chickens. Nicole Tammy & Wynde WYNDE KATE REESE and TAMMY LOEWY received the 2016 NY State Small Business Person(s) of the Year award as well as the NYS Business of Excellence award in 2010. They met in 2001 while working at a vegetarian restaurant in Keene Valley, and instantly became friends. Sharing a passion for healthy food and a love of the outdoors, they merged their expertise in 2004 by creating Green Goddess Foods. Pioneers of the Adirondack Farm to Table movement, they were vendors at the first Lake Placid Farmer's Market, where they sold prepared foods using seasonal ingredients to give consumers ideas on what to do with local produce. In 2007 they expanded into a brick and mortar business by opening Green Goddess Natural Foods in Lake Placid. In 2013, they expanded their offerings and reopened in their current location at 2051 Saranac Ave. The store includes a cafe, deli, nutrition counseling and catering services, and offers Veggiecation TM classes in local schools. Reese holds a BS in Holistic Nutrition and Loewy manages the cafe and catering departments. The mission of Green Goddess is to provide healthy and delicious local and organic foods to North Country residents and vacationing customers. MANUEL PALACIOS is a scientist and outdoor photographer based out of Upstate New York in the Saratoga County area. He spends most days and nights wandering around the beauty of the Adirondacks. For Manuel, landscape photography is not just a means to document moments, but a way to artistically interpret and feel landscapes. He has a great passion for night and twilight photography and loves pushing photography to its technical limits. Manuel JOHN DIGIACOMO lives in Lake Placid with his wife Michele. In 2009 through a series of life altering events, he made a decision to leave his position as a corporate executive and pursue a career as a professional free-lance photographer. This decision has afforded him the opportunity to pursue on a full-time basis his passion for photography, as well as his love of the outdoors. John can usually be found, with camera gear in tow, hiking, paddling or skiing throughout the Adirondacks. John
