65 Winter 2016 LOCALadk Magazine LOCALadk Jeanne Selander Miller splits her time between Old Forge, NY and Vero Beach, FL. In Old Forge she is a co-owner along with her sister Susan of the popular Sisters Bistro. She is the award winning author of three books, a trilogy about love, loss, a return to happiness and a whole lot in between. Her first book, A Breath Away was published in 2012. Jeanne shares a personal and very difficult journey with her husband. Most of us if not all of us have lost someone we know to cancer. Jeanne's husband is diagnosed at a young age, a time where they are enjoying a loving marriage and two healthy kids. The story contains love, fear, despair and hope and above all in my opin- ion courage. The courage to face the cruel reality that life some- times deals us. The courage to have hope and fight for each day and in the end the courage to love even after loss. You are bound to shed tears but you will also be inspired by love and commitment. Her second book in the trilogy, A Million Miles from Home was published in 2013. After loosing the love of her life and feeling alone and lost Jeanne attempts a try for a second chance. She re-marries only to soon find that this new man is not the man she thought he was or needs him to be. She stays to long but finally listens to her heart and almost every other fiber of her being and makes a choice to save herself. You will both feel and cheer for her. The final book in the trilogy is The Healing Path Home that came out in 2014. Jeanne is at a point in her life now where she realizes she needs to make a change. She has spent a summer in the Ad- irondacks and has felt the healing power of nature, new friends and her sister. After many long conversations she and her sister make a leap of faith decision and buy an old Victorian building in Old Forge. They begin to create a new restaurant and a new life in Old Forge. Sister's Bistro is born and the Adirondacks become home. This book will leave you smiling and at times laughing out loud. Jeanne inspires us for taking a chance and working hard to create a new life. These books can be found at many Adirondack book store's. Also check out her latest novel, Privileged published in August of 2016. A serious look at how privilege, wealth and prestige can sometimes be so powerful it overlooks what is right and just, for the sake of reputation. When not writing or working at the Bistro Jeanne enjoys time with friends and family. She especially cherishes the time she gets to spend with her two children, Cullen and Gillian. She also keeps very busy with traveling, skiing, hiking, kayaking, and prac- ticing yoga. The Book Shelf
