9 Winter 2016 LOCALadk Magazine LOCALadk Eric ERIC ADSIT can't cross a bridge without looking for a river beneath it. While his mailing address is in Lowville, he lives on the rivers, trails, and mountains of the ADK and beyond, taking photos, climbing things, and writing about his experiences. As a whitewater kayaker for nearly half his life, and the founder of the online magazine 'The Dirtbag's Guide to Whitewater," he is now assembling a guidebook on northern NY rivers. Adrian ADRIAN HAYDEN is a skier, biker, hiker, outdoor enthusiast, but mostly, a local Adirondacker and proud of it. He lives with his parents in Saranac Lake, and is in the 8th grade at Petrova Middle School. After being afraid of snow at the age of 18 months, he overcame it and decided sledding and skiing was the way to go, and hasn't stopped since. He has traveled across the globe and the continent, hence,"When you travel you not only change your perspective on the world but you get a new perspective on home". He considers himself fortunate to be born here which opens up opportunities for being a champion and just a kid. SARAH VAN RIJSEWIJK is a spiritual life coach, writer, and Reiki healer living in the southern Adirondacks. She is the mother of two little girls - Adelynn and Felicity, a wife, nature enthusiast and owner of three fluffy Alaskan Malamutes. She spends her free time hiking, kayaking, meditating and playing with her family. Sarah Anne ANNE BREWER lives in Lake Placid with her husband, Peter Evans, his daughter Ellie, and their dog Juni. She is an avid outdoor sports enthusiast, kayaker, hiker, skier, photographer, and traveler. She has a passion for Central and South America and enjoys visiting places that are off the beaten path. Anne earned a degree in International Business and Communications from SUNY Brockport. In addition to being the Managing Editor for LOCALadk, Anne guides for Adventures in Good Company, and operates her own summer business: Placid Waters Kayaking. Who's Who MITCHELL EDELSTEIN was born in Brooklyn (before it was cool) and came to Raquette Lake in 1986 to work for a friend for ten days. Seven years later, he moved back to the D.C. area. He eagerly returned to Raquette Lake in 2004 where he wears many hats: Town Justice, EMT, and President of the Raquette Lake Fire Department. Mitch thoroughly enjoys the many seasons of the Adirondacks, except maybe black fly season. Mitchell Kathy KATHY SCOTT has canoed tributaries of the Churchill River in Saskatchewan, the Green River in Utah, and LaVerendrye Park in Quebec. She initially moved to the Adirondacks to work for the 1980 Winter Olympics. Kathy co-founded and managed St. Regis Canoe Outfitters. In this capacity, she outfitted and guided trips in the Adirondacks. During the winters, she organized and guided two-week canoe trips along the Florida Everglades 100 mile Wilderness Waterway. She raised her two children in the Saranac Lake area, where they participated in many outdoor activities. Kathy now resides and works in coastal Maine, and enjoys returning to the people and the beauty of the Adirondacks.
