64 Spring 2017 LOCALadk Magazine LOCALadk Bigger Last year, Eat ADK took place exclusive- ly in Lake Placid, NY. This year's partic- ipating communities are: Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, Wilmington, Tupper Lake, and Keene. Good news! It is likely that in years to come Eat ADK will expand into neighboring communities that border the Adirondacks. Better 2016 was a huge success for Eat ADK. It was Lake Placid's inaugural year to invite patrons to dip their foodie toes in the culinary water. People enjoyed it. Survey results show that patrons who participated loved the food, menu offerings, and the prices. It also gave them a chance to come together and just celebrate local cuisine and lively li- bations. Support local! even Tastier More communities, more dining op- tions. 'nuff said! Whether you're familiar with restaurant week in Lake Placid or not – this year you are in for a treat. This year is going to be even bigger and tastier! Our restaurant week, dubbed Eat ADK, returns again for a second year – and it is certainly a delectable time to be in the Adirondacks. Restaurant weeks have been popular for many years in various communities around the world. They are a time for local chefs to showcase their passion for the culinary arts in a restaurant setting. Foodies travel from near and far to enjoy these special times. Mouth-watering dishes are prepared and offered on prix fixe menus (meaning that price is fixed). This allows patrons to enjoy the menu offerings at reasonable prices, and to explore new dishes. Restaurant weeks, like our own Eat ADK, are an opportunity to relax, and have someone cook up a nice meal for you (or two, three… ten; who's counting?!). Eat ADK was initially conceived by Joe Conto, the director of the Hotel, Resort, and Tourism Management program at Paul Smith's College, in Paul Smith's, New York. It was brought to life by the Field Studies in Hospitality class, led by Professor Kelly Cerialo, in spring of 2015. Kelly and her students, together with Joe, proposed the idea to the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism and the Lake Placid Business Asso- ciation. The Paul Smith's crew collaborated with local community members to further develop the concept, and soon Eat ADK was born. What makes Eat ADK unique, aside from the food, is the offering of many free and family-friendly events. Last year's activities included sleigh rides by draft horses, a healthy-style cooking demonstration, wine tasting, specialty olive oil tasting, film and theatre shows, a farmer's market, beer tastings from local craft breweries, and live music. Please check the calendar for this year's events at www.eatadk.com. Eat ADK is a time for relaxation and savory indulgence in a beautiful and inviting set- ting. The cozy and charming mountain culture of the Adirondacks and the passion of the talented chefs who live here permeate the food and drink. This makes it a memo- rable and tasteful celebration of local cuisine. It is not to be missed. Save the date! Eat ADK takes place this year from April 27th to May 4th 2017. Restaurants through- out Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, Wilmington, and Keene will be offering prix fixe menus with pricing options of $15, $20, or $30. Lodging packages are available. This spring treat yourself! (Or your loved ones.) Eat, play, sleep, repeat! Information can be found at www.eatadk.com. We hope to see you soon!
