Although the areas along the lake at the John Dillon camp-
ground are no-swimming, there are other accessible locations
nearby. The municipal beach at Long Lake is accessible and
approximately four miles away, and another accessible swim-
ming area is located at Lake Eaton State Park, which is about
two miles from the campground.
A stay at John Dillon Park is free. This is because the camp re-
lies on an endowment fund and donations to keep operating.
It's open to the public for both day and overnight use. Reser-
vations are required for overnight stays.
For more information, or to make a reservation, call 518-524-
6226 or visit www.johndillonpark.org. The park is open from
late May through late August.
Noah planned to resume his outpatient therapy at the Hos-
pital for Special Care in New Britain when he returned home
from the John Dillon Park. He and his family really appreciated
the break in the Adirondacks this past summer, he said.
"It's very well set up and a gorgeous location," said Eric. "The
staff has been really helpful during our stay." The 2-mile drive
back into the woods" really makes you feel like you are in the
back country," said Noah's mother, Susan Lourie. "It's hard for
some people with limited mobility to get this type of camping
experience," she said. "But we've been able to camp right on
the lake. We could even hear the loons."
