66 Spring 2017 LOCALadk Magazine LOCALadk Adirondack Archangels: Guardians of the High Peaks Edited by Christian Bourjade and Alex Radmanovich Foreword by Bill McKibben Published by the Adirondack Mountain Club LOCALadk loves to introduce fun and interesting people who live in, play in, and protect the Park. The new book, Adiron- dack Archangels is a kaleidoscope of interesting people, most- ly local, who have ties to the Adirondacks. They have shared their thoughts through a collection of passionately written and truthfully told essays about their specific roles within the park. The book is written to honor the life and memory of Edwin H. "Ketch" Ketchledge, Ph.D. Ketch was instrumental in the cre- ation of the ADK High Peaks Summit Stewardship Program. His passion and dedication to protect the High Peaks area led to the development of this program. Today it is responsible for educating hikers, protecting the alpine ecosystem, and ensuring the existence of summit stewards for future genera- tions. This is ensured through the #507 Fund that was estab- lished to provide income in perpetuity. Adirondack Archangels introduces you to 38 very different people, each individually vested in helping to protect the Ad- irondacks. A few who have contributed to this great book in- clude the children of Dr. Edwin Ketchledge, Neil Woodworth - Executive Director and Counsel of the Adirondack Mountain Club, Carl Heilman - photographer, Terry Martino - Executive Director of the Adirondack Park Agency, and Tim Barnett of the Nature Conservancy. We recommend that Adirondack Archangels be added to your personal library in its ever - growing Adirondack section. Share it with friends and family and gain better insight into the High Peaks region through its stories and photographs. It can be purchased through Adirondack Mountain Club or many local bookstores. Proceeds from the sale support the #507 Fund. The Adirondack Heart John Radigan Photographer, writer, and founder of Adirondack Photogra- phy Institute. The Adirondack Heart is a new book by Old Forge photogra- pher John Radigan. He has compiled a collection of some of his favorite images, coupled with writings that share his love of the Adirondacks. His writings are described as "an attempt to give voice to what he and probably many of us experience as we absorb the natural beauty of the Adirondacks." As a coffee table book, it should be shared and enjoyed by many. John has put his heart and soul into this work. We thank him for sharing his talents and personal love of the Adiron- dacks with us. "The Adirondacks, for me, is one of those places where the primordial man-nature connection is still possible. By that I mean the connection we had to nature when we were a part of it, as opposed to observing/exploiting like we do now. It is a place where I can sense that there are forces working that I can't see, but are available to me on some level." - John Radigan The Bookshelf
