64 Fall 2017 LOCALadk Magazine LOCALadk It's easy to see why Outdoor Project has seen a 400 percent year over year growth rate, with 160,000 members and an ev- er-expanding web of content. Why not join? Membership is free and allows unlimited access to the site. Members can cus- tomize their profile, link to their own websites, and use Out- door Project as a platform to display a portfolio of outdoor writing and photography. It's easy to add updates to adven- tures and keep tabs on what you've done or what's left on the bucket list. Plus, members enjoy updates about events like the upcoming San Francisco and Salt Lake City Block Parties, which often feature live music and other festivities. With rap- id expansion in the northeast, it's only a matter of time before Outdoor Project is hosting a block party in a city nearby. If you'd like to take things a step further, consider becoming a contributor. While basic photography and writing skills are required, Outdoor Project's team of editors works with con- tributors to develop your submission into the best possible content. Contributing is easy. Simply choose an adventure that hasn't yet been documented, take a handful of photos during your trip, and provide a roughly 300 -word adventure description of your trip. Key details like trip length, elevation gain or loss, and location are also necessar y, but are easily found with a bit of research. Outdoor Project rewards contributors for their submissions via the Contributor Rewards Program, which includes pro- deals to several outdoor brands, cash rewards, and automatic submission in bi-annual contests. The Contributor Rewards Program assigns a point value to different adventures, award- ing more points to more difficult adventures. The harder your adventure is to document or complete, the more points you will receive. At the end of each season, points are tallied. Af- ter 25 points, contributors are considered "sponsored," with access to pro-deals from brands like Adidas Outdoor, Hungr y Hikers, NW Alpine, and Peak Design. After 55 points contribu- tors are considered "Pro," gaining access to deeper discounts. As a component of Outdoor Project's Contributor incentives, 10 percent of all Outdoor Project revenue goes back to Con- tributors in the form of earning into annual dividends coming from a cash pool. Once a Contributor passes a point threshold they begin to access a pro-rata share of the cash pool based on the number of points they have. If this sounds like something you're interested in, act now! There are still tons of adventures in the Adirondacks and beyond that require little effort to rack up tons of points, but sooner or later someone else will claim them. Contributors can apply at outdoorproject.com/community/contributors. Even if you don't want to become a contributor, consider visiting outdoorproject.com to see what nearby adventures you might be overlooking. Sometimes the best adventures are right in our backyards.
