Some of our canned favorites include strawberr y rhubarb
jam, dilly beans, pickled mixed vegetables, spiced apples,
salsa, and spaghetti sauce, but the possibilities are virtually
endless. Using your imagination, or in my case, my appetite,
is best.
By fall, after months of preparation, hard work, and dil-
igence, our root cellar will be full of food, our gardens
prepped for winter, and our woodshed will again be getting
filled to the brim with good, dr y, wood. We will be ready to
bunker down for the long winter months that are fast ap-
proaching. Then the cycle will repeat itself next year.
Homesteading is not for ever yone but if you have the
desire and the garden space, it is a lifestyle that is deeply
rewarding. For my husband and I, as well as our dog King,
homesteading means spending lots of time investing in our-
selves, our health, and our future. "Locally grown" doesn't
get any more local than your own backyard.
