AC ADEMY & MAIN
As Academy & Main, the retail space on the hotel's first
floor, transitioned from a construction site, ever y day felt a
little like Christmas for Michelle Hill. She made daily trips to
a nearby storage container and brought back boxes of prod-
uct to place in the store. "Some of the items I was seeing for
the first time and I could immediately imagine how they would
look and how guests were going to react to them. That was
fun," Hill said.
Hill is the store's Retail Manager and, like many of the oth-
er key personnel of Hotel Saranac, has lived in the area long
enough to have her own 'Remember when…' stor y about the
hotel. For Hill, it was walking into the retail store and shop-
ping. "It was the largest retail shop in the village," Hill said. "It
seemed like it had a little bit of ever ything."
Roedel Companies brought in Brian Schnetzer and Gar y
Briggs of Aunt Sadie's to bring Academy & Main to life with
a series of `vignettes' sectioned around the store. Each vi-
gnette has a theme and merchandise to match. It's a mix of
hotel-branded mementos, practical items, and cool finds from
local craftspeople such as jewelr y, soaps, and candles.
