Jayson Matt
athletes will modify their programs to include approximately
three strength and conditioning sessions a week (more for
maintenance than strength building) and two days of playing
various athletic games.
If all this wasn't enough to fill Matt and Jayson's schedule,
both have been pursuing bachelor's degrees from DeVr y Uni-
versity. Thanks to a partnership between the United States
Olympic Committee and DeVr y University, athletes have the
opportunity to earn a degree while pursuing their primar y
goal of Olympic or Paralympic success. Matt recently earned
his degree in Business Communications. Jayson is in his soph-
omore year, pursuing a degree in Business Management and
Marketing.
On November 4th USA Luge held its final seeding races
at the 2018 Olympic venue in Pyeonchang. With the final
seeding races complete, the 15-member 2017-2018 World
Cup team was selected. The International Luge Federation's
World Cup quota is five men, four women, and three doubles
teams.
There are five World Cup races scheduled between Novem-
ber and December and at the conclusion of these races 10
Olympic nominees will officially be named. The final selec-
tion will include three men, three women, and two doubles
teams.
This December 15-16, you'll have chance to root for Matt
and Jayson while they compete, along with their fellow
teammates, in a World Cup competition in Lake Placid. If you
have never been to a World Cup luge race, I strongly encour-
age you to come out and experience it. Luge is fun to watch
on television, but it's even more exhilarating to stand along
the track and feel the speed of the sled and its athletes as
they zip past. For more information about the event, visit
