Spring 2018 LOCALadk Magazine 7 LOCALadk Message From The Editor Our magazine has a responsibility to our readers, advertisers, and to the park itself. And that is to print accu- rate and honest stories that encourage people to enjoy and embrace the park and all it has to offer. Since we first started the magazine, our main mission has been to promote the outdoor adventure, arts and music, flora and fauna, great people, and delicious foods found in the Adirondack region. This continues to be our mission. We are proud to have created a platform for people to share their stories through written word as well as stunning photography. With this mission also comes the responsibility to ensure that our stories encourage people to take care of the park. In this, our spring issue, we celebrate both biking and hiking on the trails. As many of you know, the trails are usually a mess in the spring. Our featured message from the DEC (pg. 5) speaks to the proper etiquette of hiking in spring. There will be days when you may want to hike, but to do so would possibly damage the trails. We in no way want to encourage this. Enjoy the trails and all the beauty that comes with spring, but do so respectfully. The Adirondack Park is ours to enjoy - and also to protect. The spring issue is full of great reads; there's something for ever yone. We have flowers, flies, fish, and forests that sing. We cover biking and hiking, and our Epic Journey takes you on an adventure in Greece. We hope you enjoy the variety of writing and the photos that grace our magazine. We are always grateful for the support and feedback we receive from our readers. Please feel free to email comments and stor y ideas to: info@localadk.com Our spring recipient of our "Keeping it LOC AL" campaign is the ADK High Peaks Foundation. The purpose of this foundation is to provide financial assistance to individuals or organizations whose activities provide a benefit to the New York State Forest Preser ve and the people that use it. Happy spring, Anne Brewer Owner/Editor
