Summer 2018 LOCALadk Magazine 11 LOCALadk SANDRA HILDRETH grew up in Wisconsin, has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, and has lived in or near the Adirondacks since 1972. For 31 years she was a high school art teacher and since retiring and moving to Saranac Lake, she has worked full-time as an artist. She spends her time painting, hiking, paddling, and skiing. Sandra JONATHAN ZAHAREK grew up in a very rural community in South West Ohio. His family has been traveling to and from the Adirondack Park for nearly 100 years. After falling in love with photography, he used his surroundings in the Adirondacks to further his career. He currently travels wherever photography takes him and has work on display in the LPCA gallery in Lake Placid, NY. Jonathan CHRIS KAPLANIS and his wife Elizabeth first met and soon got engaged in Lake Placid. Their love for triathlon and passion to help others inspired them to quit their corporate jobs and coach triathlon professionally. Nearly 10 years later, they have helped thousands of athletes achieve their goals. They are the co-founders of RTA Triathlon, and both hold certificates in USA Triathlon level 2, USA Cycling level 2, and as IRONMAN certified coaches. Together they have completed 15 IRONMAN triathlons and five World Championships. RidgewoodTriAthlete.com Chris WYNDE KATE REESE and TAMMY LOEWY, owners of Green Goddess Foods in Lake Placid, stay busy with their multiple locations. Their Natural Market, Café & Deli offers organic groceries, a sit-down café, and catering services for events large and small. Their Market on Main St. offers a grab-and-go deli and salad bar, plus organic grocery options, and their Nordic Café, Bar, and Waffle Hut at Mt. Van Hoevenberg provides skiers with healthy food and drinks in the winter. When not enhancing the health of their community, Wynde and Tammy enjoy volunteering for Farm to School and Global Arts organizations and exploring in nature with their families. Tammy & Wynde As the Program Manager for NOLS Northeast. LINDSAY YOST'S love of the Adirondacks and passion for the NOLS mission are united. Her work supports wilderness expeditions and leadership development for people of all ages. In her role as a NOLS instructor, Lindsay leads backcountry skiing and hiking expeditions around the world. The water of Lake Placid baptized Lindsay at a young age and she has and enduring and deep connection to this place. Lindsay lives in Saranac Lake and enjoys skiing, hiking, and taking photos of her dog, Nora. Lindsay ALVIN REINER sought a peaceful hermitic existence, and decided to go to the NYS Ranger School to get paid to be a recluse. After working for the NYS DEC from 1964 to 1971, he earned a forestry degree at Utah and lived on the Navajo Reservation for 12 years teaching in elementary school and working as an EMT, journalist, and photographer. After returning to the Adirondacks in 1987 he taught at ELCS and as an adjunct professor at Plattsburgh State.
