For dessert we order raisin
apple crisp with honey ice cream and
coffee crème brulee, with a Dow's Late
Bottled Vintage Port for irrigation. The
raisin crisp is satisfyingly sweet and the
crème brulée is smoky and not cloying,
excellent with the rich Dow's LBV. Our
bill comes to $107 without tip.
By 7 PM the dining room begins
to fill up, and the noise level rises
commensurately. Many in the crowd
seem to be athletes here to train and
compete in Lake Placid's renowned
Olympic sports venues. Christine Lee
Lennon, a Lake Placid Triathlete, is a
frequent visitor. She says she comes to
Liquids and Solids for the atmosphere
and the wonderfully eclectic food – a

sentiment that prevails among the
