LOCALadk | Opener PHINNEY DESIGN GROUP ARCHITECTURE|GREEN BUILDING CONSULTING CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT|INTERIOR DESIGN Serving clients throughout the Adirondacks and Catskills PHINNEYDESIGN.COM (518) 587-7120 142 Grand Avenue | Saratoga Springs, NY facebook.com / phinneydesigngroup customers. Let's operate responsibly. Let's have LOCALadk printed on Forest Service Council (FSC) paper, using soy based inks and chemical free plates. Let's accomplish all of this in a modern, high tech, certified facility as close to home as possible to help lessen delivery expense and overall, lessen our impact on the environment. Even recycling takes a toll on the environment. Let's stive to make LOCAKadk something people won't want to get rid of. Let's become a member of 1% for the Planet, and donate 1% of our sales to help environmental causes and concerns. Let's give back to the community and support our local shelters and humane societies with free advertising for Tri-Lakes Humane Society and North Country SPCA. And while we're at it, let's include Adirondack Harvest, part of the Cornell Cooperative Extension, and support local agriculture too. Let's work with partners, such as the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, to help develop and deliver a strong branding and message for the Adirondack Park. Let's teach, educate, inspire, and make people want to come back for more. In a geography that's bigger than the National Parks of Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Glacier, and the Great Smokey Mountains combined, with a population of more than 80 million within a day's driving distance, let's help people know the Adirondacks from a local point of view. Let's also support, nurture and inspire a sense of community within those who live here year round. Let's be uncompromising and independent. Let's always shy away from becoming corporate, and understand the limitations of our new publication. Let's always allow quality to lead the way. Let's never measure our success by the size of our bottom line. Instead, let's measure our bottom line by the size of our success. To do this, we must first and foremost, create and deliver a magazine of substance, beyond all else. If we fail to deliver quality, we have failed in our business, and our bottom line will reflect that failure. Let's operate efficiently, and never have an office. Doing so would undermine the very quality of content in the magazine. Trapping people indoors to toil away at computers does no justice to a magazine that thrives on the stories by and about people who are out doing things! Let's never talk on the phone. Most who do, take 15 minutes to say what really takes 15 seconds. It's a waste of time and inefficient, and detracts from our real work. To date, I have placed only two phone calls, for any reason, regarding the development or publication of the magazine. Yes, we have a phone number, and as of this printing, we've received a total of three voicemail messages. Every other communication was efficiently done over email. 6 LOCALadk Magazine Spring 2013 spring-2013-12V-options.indd 2 3/11/2013 4:31:03 PM
