What started as a one-off concert on the
beach, has evolved into the current format of
seven individual concerts in a row on Friday eve-
nings at 6 pm, plus Fourth of July. The evolution
of the series occurred when it became apparent
that the series was filling an unmet need in the
local arts scene by providing diverse music to
the public for free. Without having a privately
owned performance hall or music venue in Long
Lake, it fell to the Town's shoulders to provide
value programming for a large audience and
help fill this gap in the arts scene that no lo-
cal group has the bandwidth to do. Now in its
fourth year of the current format, the Music by
the Lake series strives to have an eclectic mix
of local, regional, and national touring acts and
cover a broad range of music styles.
This summer is our strongest yet, starting on
July 4th with North Country group, the Willie
Playmore Band, taking the stage and specializ-
ing in classic rock and rhythm and blues.
After that we get into the meat of the Music
by the Lake series with popular local band Night
School from Tupper Lake performing on July
7th. July 14th features Gratefully Yours, a Grate-
ful Dead inspired band conceived and founded
in 2012 by keyboardist Alex Muir, founder of The
Deadbeats — one of the longest running Grate-
ful Dead cover bands in existence.
Clockwise from above: A crowd gathers at Music By The Lake,
Richard Chandler's Jennings Pond, and WEB on stage at Music By The Lake.
