Honoring tradition and inspiring the future
The Polar Bear Ski Club stands as a reminder of what
makes Old Forge special: a small, tight-knit commu-
nity that rallies around its youth and a shared love of
the sport. Looking to the future, the club hopes to
offer even more resources to young skiers, expand
its training abilities on the mountain, and continue its
legacy as a cornerstone of winter life in Old Forge. The
mountain is installing a new 3-person chairlift slated
to be ready for this season. This will be an upgrade
for mountain efficiency that will serve the club and
visitors well for years to come.
As long as there's snow on McCauley, there will be
Polar Bears ready to tackle it. And as long as there
are Polar Bears, a rare and beautiful legacy of pride
and small-town grit will carry on. I pause at the base
of the hill as the Polar Bears head towards the yurt
and consider the possibility that perhaps the future
fifth Olympian is here – grinning, tired and wrapping
up practice after a long day. One thing is certain: they
will continue to hang their memories on their walls,
safeguarded for generations to come.
