Winter Respite
The allure of winter –
. . . crispness
. . . clarity
Let us go deeper into winter:
The sharpness of the diamonds,
sparkling in the snow,
Reflections of moon glow
on the ice-covered fields,
Pointing us in new directions
from which to grow,
Holding the beauty within –
. . . reds,
. . . blues,
. . . yellows,
Heralding the spring to come
after the rest, the calm,
Bursting forth with newness –
rejuvenation.
Awakening to Silence
The absence of sound.
I hear it . . .
I feel it . . .
as I look around.
Birch bark hanging . . .
no movement as it were.
Not a needle stirring,
not on hemlock, not on fir.
No birds do I hear chirping,
moisture droplets stir no air,
the sound of nature awakening,
stillness . . . stillness . . .
everywhere.
